The
Book
Hong
Kong is best known as 'Pearl of the Orient', however,
this beautiful pearl is also severely affected by air
pollution. Are the dizzy lights representing the real
Hong Kong pride, or are they just unnecessary luxuries
invented by the modern city?
The
first book reveals light nuisances in Hong Kong,《夠照》(Dim
it), to be published on 1st May 2008 by Friends
of the Earth (HK). It is available at all bookstores
at HK$88 each. With high-quality graphics printed on
208 pages eco-friendly paper, readers can tour around
Hong Kong and visit various spot with light-pollution
and over-illumination. There are also sets of articles
covering relevant topics, such as a historical retrospect
that demonstrated how a small village developed to the
sleepless city nowadays, real cases of light pollution
to individual families, the
ridiculous
local energy policy, as well
as worldwide lights out actions telling us that Hong Kong
is not alone.
We
invite all citizens who share the same sky with us to
take this book-tour. The more electric we consume, the
more pollution we emit, this is your choice. There are
certainly a lot to do between lights-on and lights-off.
The book will enlighten your understanding about this
hot issue that is in fact affecting our daily life.
To
celebrate the 25th Anniversary of FoE (HK), a
buy-one-get-one-free special offer is arranged
between 2nd and 30th May 2008. Anyone who has purchased
