Dear
Green Friends,
Behind
the colorful fireworks, behind the laughter of a man-made
magic kingdom, there is a 'smelly' past and a 'tragic'
beginning that would leave behind an unglorified chapter
in the short history of the Hong Kong SAR.
The
making of the Disneyland Theme Park in Hong Kong has
exposed endless scandals and negligence, which include:
bad governance, double standard, non-transparency and
failure to uphold environmental and social precautionary
principles.
Hong
Kong environmental group Friends of the Earth (HK) has
been monitoring the development of the Disney Theme
Park since 1999. To defend the interest of the public,
the environment and the spirit of the law, Friends of
the Earth (HK) has taken action to challenge the government
negligence and double standard as well as exposing the
'ugly side' of a multinational corporation's business
conduct.
