Dr. Vivian Wong, Chairperson of Friends of the Earth (HK) presented electronic certificate of appreciation to the guests officiating at the “Trees.COOLiving” kick off ceremony. The e-cards are available on 

“Trees.COOLiving” website to donors.  The paper liner which symbolized the launch of the campaign has been used in a previous campaigning activity. The reuse of the prop is aimed to demonstrate how we could reduce waste by breaking convention.

Establish Low Carbon Lifestyle Plant for a Green Future

"TreesCOOLiving" Kick-off Ceremony and Fun Fair was held successfully on 22 March 2015, notably the Hong Kong Tree Plantation Day and World Water Day, at Amphitheatre, Stanley Plaza. With various activities and booths in the event, FoE (HK) raised the public awareness on topics ranging from green life planning, water security, tree protection, urban farming, climate change, waste reduction, organic food and so on. During the kick-off ceremony, Trees COOL Ambassador Albert Au performed the theme song in live. Singer-songwriter Jing Wong, the famous Lil’ Ashes and Joey and Patrick from Taichi generously dedicated their musical talents to the event and pushed the event to the climax. FoE (HK) would like to thank the venue sponsor, The Link, Chung Ying Theatre Company and My Melody for fully supporting the event.

With the
new flagship campaign launched, a wide variety of activities will be organized by FoE (HK) to promote COOL lifestyle with emphasis on the benefits and conservation of trees.

 

The Return of “Sons of Dongjiang”

How can a tiny drop of water flow from mountains to your home? And how does it link us up with nature? FoE (HK) invites you to join our 14th Sons of Dongjiang Volunteer Programme to be held in July this year. Let us join hands to think about our water resources. Take this opportunity to explore the origin of the Dongjiang River, experience life in rural villages and investigate the challenges of sustainable development.

 

 

About 70% of Hongkongers against the 3rd runway expansion

FoE (HK) and other green groups commissioned Hong Kong Baptist University to conduct a survey regarding the airport expansion in mid-March. Of the total number of respondents (i.e. 617 individuals), about 68% wanted the Airport Authority to focus on improving the operations of its two runways before considering building a third.

Way out: aviation co-ordination in the Pearl River Delta instead of building 3rd runway

An aviation seminar, organised by People’s Aviation Watch (jointly established by FoE (HK) and other groups) on 21 March, brought together the experts from both Hong Kong and mainland, including Mr. Albert Lam, ex-Director-General of Civil Aviation and Mr. Lam Chiu Ying, ex-Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, to discuss the integration and co-ordination of aviation in the Pearl River Delta. Where is the land for Hong Kong’s agriculture?

The Administration has launched a public consultation on the “New Agricultural Policy” recently, proposing to acquire the lots concerned through land resumption for setting up the Agricultural Park. FoE (HK) together with 10 other concern groups wrote a joint letter asking for long-term and sustainable agricultural policy to protect ecological and environmental resources, create food security and enhance the quality of life for the farmers and community, for both current and future generations.

 

The WYNG Masters Award 2015

As a supporting organisation of The WYNG Masters Award 2015, apart from being one of the judges of the competition’s entries, FoE (HK) will host a seminar on “The Path towards Introducing Waste Charging in Hong Kong” on 25 April. Details of the activity will be announced soon.

The WYNG Masters Award's mission is to nurture the growth of photography as an art form in Hong Kong, as well as to stimulate dialogue and foster community awareness on socially-relevant issues of critical importance to Hong Kong. The 2014/15 theme is WASTE. The winners will be announced in the opening ceremony on 18 April (Saturday) at 5pm. Interested parties can email to

Cheers to the Planet

FoE (HK) collaborates with Schmidt Vinothek to launch a four-month campaign called Cheers to the Planet. Through various activities, including the organic wine sharing and recycling of used wine bottles with purchase discount, it aims to promote the message of environmental protection. All proceeds will go to FoE (HK).

Schmidt Vinothek is hosting a Cheers to the Planet kick-off tasting party in Happy Valley shop on 24 April (Friday), from 7 to 9pm. The tasting fee is HK$120. All proceeds will be donated to FoE (HK). Details of the event and reservation will be announced on
