Jockey Club COOL Neighbours for Energy Saving X District Council

Online Petition – Curb the Use of Disposable Plastic Items
22 April was Earth Day. The focus theme of Earth Day 2018 was plastic pollution. Every year, tonnes of plastic waste are disposed of into our oceans. We appeal to you again: please petition the government to implement legislation to curb plastic waste and tackle the problem at the source.

Green Delights in Estate
The theme of the new phase of “Green Delight in Estates” programme is ‘Green Home’. In the second half of this year, MSW Auditing Scheme and Home Greening Workshop would be the highlights of Green Delight in Estates. The participants can accumulate experience in the MSW charging scheme and be ready for the future implementation of MSW charging. Creativity in Upcycling Competition
To avoid depleting the resources from our planet, we must strive to reduce waste. You are welcome to participate in the “Creativity in Upcycling Competition” co-organised by FoE (HK) and Bayard Presse Asia. Figure out some smart and creative ways to reuse or upcycle the waste your family generated! Be creative!

Competition Categories: Kindergarten parent-child group, lower primary, upper primary

HKQAA Symposium 2018

Mr. CW Cheung Appointed as Chief Executive Officer
Mr. CW Cheung, newly appointed CEO of FoE (HK), came on board on 9 April 2018. CW brought with him more than 30 years of experience in the environmental and commercial sectors.

CW thanked the Board of Governors for giving him the opportunity to work in such a leading environmental NGO to contribute to the protection of the local and regional environment. CW aspires to work with the Board of Governors and his team to bring FoE (HK) to a new page in its 35th anniversary.
Tree Planting Challenge 2018
To combat climate change and increase biodiversity, one of the FoE (HK)’s flagship programmes, namely ‘Tree Planting Challenge 2018’, was held on 29 April 2018 at Tai Lam Country Park. It is a unique environmental activity that combines tree-planting, hiking and endurance testing. Approximately 2,000 local saplings were planted by the participants.
Response to Feed-in Tariff
The Government submitted the LegCo paper on the feed-in tariff (FiT) scheme and the renewable energy certificates. FoE (HK) welcomes the policies in tackling climate change by promoting local renewable energy development. To ensure effective implementation, FoE made six recommendations which included extending the guaranteed purchase period, regulations review on installing solar systems and more.

Power Smart Energy Saving Contest - Solar Model Car Mini Olympics of Primary Schools
The "Power Smart Energy Saving Contest - Solar Model Car Mini Olympics of Primary Schools", sponsored by Hang Seng Bank, was held at Chiu Chow Association Secondary School and Ching Chung Hau Po Woon Secondary School. Nearly 140 students participated in the competition. The competition aims to deepen their understandings on renewable energy through building and controlling the solar model cars in the four different kinds of time-limited and scoring games.
The Earth Academy: Summer Institute 2018 – Internship Briefing Session
Students from different local universities attended our Summer Institute 2018 Internship Briefing Session held by The Earth Academy (TEA). We have introduced three different areas of internship programme, including energy, municipal solid waste and urban forestry. We hope they could select the most suitable project based on their interests and improve our living environment together.
Half-day Tour to Organic Pineapple Farm
The first Green Tour of our COOL Corporate programme of the year - "Half-day Tour to Organic Pineapple Farm" was successfully conducted!

Members of COOL Corporate visited the Organic Pineapple Farm in Yuen Long. They participated in the pineapple cake making and pot planting workshops. Through the fun-filled “green tour”, the message of environmental sustainability was promulgated.
Internship Training Program – Research on Consumption Habits and Attitude of Hong Kong People
Four students from The Education University of Hong Kong had their internship training at FoE (HK) to study on the Consumption Habits and Attitude of Hong Kong People. The students had collected views from hundreds of citizens in order to analyse their consumption behavior, as well as their awareness on sustainable consumption at different age groups. They had shared their results and some potential solutions with us.
Volunteer Recruitment
FoE (HK) welcomes people from all walks of life to join us as volunteers.

We are now recruiting office volunteers to assist our clerical work including data entry, letter mailing and information arrangement.
