Petition for 6,000 Tonnes
Waste Reduction
The government proposal on Tseung Kwan O landfill expansion
was vetoed and now they immediately turned the focus on
incineration. FoE (HK) published a joint petition with other
NGOs to protest against the Government's management approach,
and initiated an integrated resource management strategy
with the principle of waste reduction, aiming to achieve
zero waste to the landfills.
|
| FoE (HK) advise that with
the implementation of the Producer Responsibility legislation,
Waste Charges, Landfill Disposal Ban, and Comprehensive Recycling
of Food Waste, 6,000 tonnes of daily municipal solid waste
in Hong Kong could be reduced each day, and therefore landfill
expansion will no longer be needed. (Full
