Now, Edward Yau! No More Deadly Air
More than 1,100 deaths per year have been caused
by severe air pollution in Hong Kong. But the Environment Bureau
ignored the deadly air, and kept the public waiting for seven months
for the consultation results of the Air Quality Objectives Review.
What’s worse, no pledge was made to implement the 19 Phase I measures
recommended in the study report by 2015.
For the sake of the public health of Hong Kong people, FoE (HK)
appealed to Dr. Poon Kit, Under Secretary for the Environment, urging
the Bureau to:
1. Pledge to implement the 19 Phase I measures listed in the study
report by 2015;
2. Negotiate with the bus companies for early retirement of Euro
II and older buses.

Tree-planting Challenge
2010 Achieved “Carbon Neutral”!
In response to global climate change, "Plant a Wish for a
Better Climate” is the theme of Tree-planting Challenge 2010,
to encourage participants to help reduce carbon footprint through
the event. Totally 1.87 tonnes of CO2 was generated in TPC 2010.
Transportation accounted for the major emission (55%); while 19%
from supplies transport; 17.3% from material usage (e.g. paper
and plastics); 6% from waste disposal; and 2.6% from electricity
consumption in tree-planting schools and on the event day. Thanks
to RESET for sponsoring “Gold Standard Carbon Credits*” to neutralize
the 1.87 tonnes of CO2 emission.
In fact, “Carbon Neutral” can also be applied to school activities,
wedding parties, sports events, and so forth. Click HERE

When 10,000 seedlings grow up to become mature trees, they can
absorb 230 tonnes of CO2 in a year. But can we simply rely on
the seedlings to combat climate change? If you want to devote
your efforts, please join FoE (HK) to achieve an eco and low-carbon
lifestyle.

Tun
Mun Reforestation Scheme, To Build a Greener Countryside
Located near the Tuen Mun town centre and the Tai
Lam Country Park, Tuen Mun Trail is a wonderful place for hiking.
However, similar to other countryside areas, Tuen Mun Trail has
now become barren because of hill fire.
To restore the woodland and prevent hill fire from happening again,
reforestation is essential. FoE (HK) has invited different government
departments, business sectors, students and residents from Tuen
Mun, as well as our volunteers to plant 40,000 seedlings in Tuen
Mun Trail, and followed by a 3-year woodland conservation programme.
