Calling for Supporting Used Clothes Recyclers for Continuous Operation
|
As COVID-19 ravages the world, all industries in Hong Kong are affected in varying degrees. FoE (HK)’s used clothes recycling programme is also the first to be impacted. The pandemic has led to many countries implementing trade measures banning imports. Recyclers are facing various operational difficulties with used clothes unable to be exported and storage space running out. In response to this issue, the four major scheme managers of the Community Used Clothes Recycling Bank Scheme are now requesting the Home Affairs Department to provide the following assistance to support the continued operation of the programme:
- Provide funding to ease the financial burden of recyclers
- Provide a free space for the temporary storage of used clothes

Climate crisis is here and getting worse:
- 2019 was the warmest year recorded in Hong Kong since 1884
- July 2020 broke the record on having both the highest numbers of very hot days and hot nights in a month in 136 years
- Heatwaves and extreme precipitation will become more intense and frequent
and more... |

|
|
Air pollution is worse than we thought:
- Roadside air quality still fails to meet the AQOs1 set by EPD
- Even if the air quality meets EPD standards, we are not truly protected as they are not fully in line with WHO guidelines
- Air pollution exposure is well-known in leading to a host of heart and lung diseases and early mortality
and more... |

Updates on Our Tree Care Work! |
|
After carrying out tree planting work at the first year, we will start our post-planting maintenance work (weeding, fertilizing, replanting and pruning, etc.). Moreover, conducting regular site inspection, preparing ecological assessment report and continuous reporting to AFCD are our core work. This is to ensure the healthy growth of young tree seedlings, which, in the long-term, to enhance the sustainability of the plantation area. With the start of the rainy and typhoon season, we keep working on post-planting maintenance work at 3 plantation areas.
