Programme Objectives & Services
According to Hong Kong’s waste statistics, Hong Kong people generate an average of over 11,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste every day. The three landfills are gradually getting overfilled. Reusable and recyclable materials are often disposed at landfills along with garbage becoming waste. To protect the environment, we must use resources in a sustainable manner and reuse and recycle as much as we can.
What we recycle
‧ Used Clothes
Friends of the Earth (Hong Kong) Used Clothes Recycling Programme
"Friends of the Earth (Hong Kong) Used Clothes Recycling Programme” was launched in 2001 with the aim of spreading the message of "treasuring resources” and "waste reduction” throughout Hong Kong, with collection points set up in housing estates, hospitals, and other public area. We now have over 200 collection points around Hong Kong. Collected items like clothes, shoes, and handbags would then be sent to the needy or resold to places with high demand for used clothes. Proceeds made from the programme will be used in the operation and education work of Friends of the Earth (HK).
